PROMETHEUS

Okay, so I was super excited to go see Prometheus. I am a huge Alien fan and a huge Ridley Scott fan and I must say I was a bit underwhelmed. The art direction was more than spectacular, beautiful imagery and landscapes. And I loved how they tied the films together. The being were created to look like those from ancient hieroglyphs and I thought that was simply awesome. I was impressed by many things in the film but I still kept feeling like there was something missing. I still cannot figure out what it was so I am going to go and watch it again. When it was over I didn’t feel like “man, that was the best one yet”, I kind of felt like, “meh, it was pretty good”. That’s what disappointed me. I feel like the cast and acting was just okay, it didn’t move me or anything. My boyfriend who is not all that familiar with the Alien franchise, asked me if it answered any questions that I had about the other films. I had to think about that for a second. The only thing I could think of was that they never explained where the Xenomorphs came from. That wasn’t explored in any of the previous films because I don’t think it really mattered, that’s not what the story was about so we didn’t really need that information. So it did explain where the Aliens originated from. I guess it posed more questions than it answered. I won’t say anymore for fear of spoiling it for those who have yet to see it. I will say, check it out. It was good, I personally was just a little underwhelmed by it. Maybe I was too excited or expected too much. I don’t know.

  1. If you want to know why this movie fell short, I highly recommend you read the cover story in the new “Film Comment” magazine. This film set itself up to let down.
